Each month we feature a member of the Jamaican Women of Florida as a way for us to learn more about each other and share the stories of the powerful women who make up this wonderful organization. This month’s featured member is also a founding member and past treasurer of the organization. We’re proud to have Dale Telfer as a member and wish her continued success in all she does!

Can you describe yourself using 3/5 words?

I'm at my best when I'm being compassionate, loyal, adventurous and independent.

What motivates you?

At this stage of life, I'm motivated by the thought of spending quality time with my family and friends who are like family.

Name something you are passionate about and why?

I'm passionate about quite a few things but depending on my focus the intensity of my passion varies. One that is consistently at the top of my list is spending time with children reading and sharing our history.

Who has impressed you most with what they’ve accomplished?

I'm most impressed by my mother who has been one of the best examples of leadership, strength and compassion throughout her personal and professional life.

What age do you wish you could permanently be and why?

Interestingly there is no age I can think of that I would want to permanently be, for the most part I've enjoyed the growth, challenges and changes that come with the evolving experiences of life.

What’s something you like to do the old-fashioned way?

Reading a printed book, the old-fashioned way still excites me.

Which books are on your reading list?

My reading list includes Ayaan Hirsi Ali's Infidel, Michelle Obama's Becoming and David Maraniss' A Good American Family.

Why JWOF?

As one of the founding members of JWOF I am firmly rooted in the vision of being a positive force in the lives of the next generation of females in Jamaica and in our local community through mentoring and providing financial support. I'm familiar with how quickly the landscape can shift beneath you resulting in instability, so I'm rooted in the vision of being a member of an organization that provides support to other Jamaican women experiencing personal challenges. JWOF allows us to give back, and/or pay it forward through charitable work.
